Changelog

Every version, newest first.

What changed in simpleFIRE and when. The same notes you see in the App Store, kept in one place.

2.3.1
October 8, 2026
  • Rate simpleFIRE in one tap: a new row in the app's settings opens the App Store review page. Every review helps other FIRE planners find the app.
2.3.0
October 7, 2026

simpleFIRE now speaks your language.

simpleFIRE now speaks Polish, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Every screen, result, chart and PDF report follows the language of your iPhone, with numbers, dates and currency written the way you're used to.

  • Change the app's language anytime from the new Language row in the app's settings.
  • Every calculation stays exactly the same in every language.

Also improved

  • Small layout fixes, especially on smaller iPhones.
  • Other fixes and improvements.

Historical: your plan, tested like the Trinity study.

Backtest your plan the way the Trinity study tested the 4% rule. Switch any calculator to Historical and it runs your plan through every period of real market history, with the returns your stocks and bonds mix actually earned and the inflation each year actually brought.

  • Projection: what you'll have, at the chance you choose.
  • Time to FI: when you reach your target, and the chance of getting there by each year.
  • Drawdown: how long your money lasts, and the chance it lasts through your planning horizon.

Also new

  • Monte Carlo is faster: its final answer updates as you move a slider.
  • Withdrawals work like the classic safe-withdrawal studies: take them at the start or end of each period, each one keeping pace with inflation.
  • Every setting sits next to the result it changes: tap the chance, planning horizon or withdrawal rate right on the result card.
  • Plan with any chance from 1% to 100%.
  • Methods & Data in Settings explains every method and data source.
  • A cleaner look with a new teal accent and app icon.
  • Your FI target is always in today's money and grows with inflation.

Monte Carlo: plan for the bad years too.

Markets don't pay the same return every year. Switch any calculator to Monte Carlo and test your plan against 5,000 market scenarios built on S&P 500 and US Treasury history. Set your stocks and bonds mix with one slider and choose the confidence level you plan with.

  • Projection: the portfolio you reach at your confidence level, next to two more levels of your choice.
  • Time to FI: when you reach your target at your confidence level.
  • Drawdown: the chance your withdrawals last, year by year up to 100 years.

Also improved

  • Refined presentation of results and charts throughout the app.
2.0.1
September 15, 2026
  • A new home, simplefire.app: the PDF and image reports now carry the new address, and the support and privacy pages live there too. The old simplefire.net address still takes you to the right place.
  • Minor improvements after the 2.0 release.
2.0
September 14, 2026

A completely new look, and two new calculators.

Redesigned from the ground up

Every screen has been rebuilt: a dark, high-contrast interface with a warm ember accent, a result card you can read at arm's length, charts you tap through year by year, and a light theme if that's more your thing. The numbers have the same rigour as before; everything around them is new.

Three calculators, one app

  • Projection, free as always: see what your portfolio grows into, year by year.
  • Time to FI, new: set your FI target and see the year and month your portfolio reaches it, the passive income it will pay, and how far along you are each year.
  • Drawdown, new: start taking money out and see how long the portfolio lasts, how much you can withdraw to last your whole planning horizon, and whether returns outrun your withdrawals.

Also new

  • PDF and image report: share a clean summary of any calculation, as a PDF or as a picture for messages and social media.
  • Inflation, one tap away: switch it on from any calculator and flip the main result between today's money and nominal value.
  • Tap through the chart to see contributions and interest for each year and so far.
  • A new app icon, with a matching dark and tinted look on iOS 18.
  • Planning horizon: decide how far ahead the app should look.
  • Details for every mode: a year-by-year table, the totals, and the assumptions behind them.

Saved profiles and calculation settings are all still here, easier to reach and quicker to change. Contribution frequency, timing and yearly increases now live in one place, right next to the contribution slider. Projection stays free. Premium is a one-time payment: no subscription, no ads, no account.
